My company is using Sage accounting

My company is using Sage accounting /management software since 15 years. Initially we bought the software + monthly charge per user for maintenance and new version update.

Despite long time customer we have never had a right customer services , very bad, nobody there to care about customers.

For any help we have to solicit one of their distributors which are not really helpful despite the high fees charging.

We get constantly their promo mailing about the new features but never follow up with our inquiries.

We are end of 2024 we got charged whole year but nobody respond about our software update.

What's said is 100% accurate , true about this company that I hope nobody get screwed again by Sage co. Sage 100.

Why customer service is so bad

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Original review updated Nov 26, 2024

Firstly, Sage has offshored a LOT of its level 1 agents to South Africa and now Costa Rica and they are poorly trained. Their English is barely understandable, and they use a totally different knowledge base than the North American (NA) agents, which is filled with inaccuracies.

They will not follow procedures, turning a 5-minute call into a 4-hour mess. In some cases, they lose customers' data entirely. Secondly, Sage has changed a lot of their internal software in the NA offices. The new software is not working as it should and hinders employees' ability to use it, or in some cases, is not functional at all.

Thirdly, Sage has fostered a lot of animosity within the ranks in the NA offices, driving employee morale into the ground. They have taken away benefits, gaslight employees, fail to fix internal issues, and especially, software issues. In fact they tend to make the software issues worse and will make a minor change such as remove an unused field and call that a MAJOR FIX. The department that manages PTO has been automated using some defective AI to manage PTO and after several weeks it will auto-deny any PTO requests and you then have to email a human who proceed to argue with you about your request.

The executives know that this is an issue, have stated that it is an issue 3 years ago yet do nothing to fix it. It has become very apparent that they have total distain for their support staff as they constantly fail to recognize them in any way.

Poor product, poor support

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Sage's support is terrible. Their online chat agents are consistently rude and unhelpful, and the software is flakey, unintuitive, and prone to corruption.

If it becomes corrupted, it takes 3-5 and hundreds of dollars for Sage to repair it.

And backups can only be accomplished in single-user mode which is extremely disruptive for most organizations. Avoid at all costs.

Resolved: Tech Support Scam

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Oct 24, 2023

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. It wasn't actually Sage that I called.

It was a scam company that comes up on Google if you search Sage tech support number. If you Google the number is shows Sage.com but it's not them and I got my whole computer hacked because of it.

I am embarrassed and will never show my face here again. Byeeee.

Original review Oct 17, 2023
I have been a user of Corecon construction software for years and they were recently acquired by Sage. In the first update since the acquisition my industry standard template that I use for invoicing clients disappeared. I emailed tech support and the next day called the support number since I had not yet gotten a response. The tech didn't understand my issue as there was a language barrier so he had be let him remote in to my computer and show him, which I did. When I had showed him where the missing template was he then pulled up an error log and said my account was not syncing the template because of these errors and if the errors were not fixed in short time I would not be able to access my database at all. I asked what to do and he pulled up a notepad and typed that they could fix it in 2 - 3 weeks for $1100 or 3 to 24 hours for $1600. I went off and disconnected him from my computer immediately because I felt like i was being scammed! A few short hours later I received this response to my original email:
The invoice templates changed in the update that was released on 8/10/2023
This did result in a change where the template that most closely matches the AIA G702 format is no longer available.
The template can be modified to meet your company's requirements. Please refer to the link below for further information and additional templates that can be modified to meet your requirments.

Terrible Customer Service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Sage - Terrible Customer Service

I had sold my business and not longer needed the software but did need access to my accounts. I had Sage Business Cloud Accounting so my accountant could log in remotely.

I was told I would have read only access to my files. The week after my account was closed, I tried to log in but was not able to because my information was in the cloud and I no longer had access to it. The sales person did not tell me that I would have to download it to my computer in order to have read only access. When I called to ask if I could have access for one day or a couple of hours to download my files, I was denied and then the sales person spoke in a very raised voice to me, saying it wasn't his fault and that I should have downloaded a copy.

He also told me that the only way I could access my files was to sign up for another year. He then hung up on me.

Total lack of support! RUDE customer service! Ridiculous tech non-support!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Problem with Balance Sheet and Aged AP report out of synch. Tech support said "The balance sheet shows a running total of all debits and credits for an account.

Both paid and unpaid transactions are listed on the balance sheet. The aged payables reports shows a total of what is owed "

Several accounts say WHAT!

Posted help on SAGE community and 2 other users said "The Aged AP report is supposed to match the Accounts Payable on the Balance Sheet. It's quite concerning to me that there are techs who do not understand that" and another "they should match I share his concern if techs do not understand this".

Unable to find anyone to help me!

From an accounting standpoint, yes, the Aged Payables should match the Balance Sheet account. However, in Sage, the user can post a journal entry to the A/P account which will not appear on the Aged Payables.

Thus, the Aged Payables & the Balance Sheet will be out of synch. We do this all the time at my office.

QB requires the user to use a Vendor when posting a journal entry to the A/P account, which eliminates this problem. I've been using Peachtree/Sage since 1992 (Peachtree Complete Accounting III), QB Desktop since 1999, and QB Online since 2003.

With Sage100c, being a batch processing application, will allow you to combine two periods in one batch. However, when updated, the AP subledger will update based on the transaction date.

The update to the GL is based on the Accounting Date. Only one date.

Therefore, you will see differences between the Aging in AP and the balance in GL. This is documented and Sage recommends using the AP Trial Balance to balance to the GL as the AP Trial Balance recognizes the transaction dates.

Maintenance FEES now Mandatory!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Not long ago, you would have to pay for phone support. Now, its mandatory.

I can use online resources to resolve many issues (and have). This helped avoid paying EXORBITANT Support fees. Now I MUST pay this fee. The Product itself (Regular Sage 50(not Cloud)) should be a standard...

MAYBE, $250 - $350 Product.

But a whopping $1200+ ???

-> Until next year, when I change products, I will be calling for EVERY ISSUE I encounter. GREAT and small.

Especially small even tiny.

After all, They're charging me for their time... I'm going to us it!

Outrageous price for what I use it for

I have a small home-based business with 2 people on payroll. I do not have any inventory.

I just use A/R, A/P, invoicing, and payroll with 1 user. I have been with sage for 18 years and now I have to pay over 1500.00. Not impressed. I paid for 2022 sage and this weekend they cut me off as I did not pay mid July for 2023.

I am in read only, apparently. They short changed me as it is not the end of 2022. Sage are not a caring or helpful company as they treat everyone whether you are small, medium, or big business at a high price.

I so not know how they can justify this atrocity. Disgruntled and quite disappointed.

Continuous Harassment by Sage

We have been using Sage for probably 20 years now but they now think they are a bank requiring unreasonable private information about every shareholder of our company. in our case some of our shareholders are not prepared to give such information to every Tom *** or Harry.

Sage itself should first supply us with their personal ID of every shareholder in their company including related companies.

We are now being threatened with being switch off. Think twice before you purchase any Sage product as it is now clear they are no longer a trust worthy company.

Resolved: Unauthorized charge on our credit card

Sage - Unauthorized charge on our credit card
Updated by user Mar 10, 2022

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with full refund. SAGE eventually returned my call and refunded the full amount.

Original review Feb 08, 2022
We were inadvertently, and inappropriately upgraded from basic to premium about 8 years ago, and were unable to roll it back to the basic version. The charge went from about $100/year to (then) about $600/year.

Each year, I explain this version is overkill for us, we don't need all these features, and can they help us out with the renewal fee - each year we get a small reprieve. This year the fee was over $1400 - we are a small business, and cannot justify it. After consultation with our new account manager, who was unable/unwilling to modify the fee, we advised her we'd have to think about renewing. Thankfully the credit card they had on file had expired, so they were unable to auto charge our card.

Before we had a chance to ultimately cancel, we got a phone call from customer service wanting to update our credit card info on file - I told her we hadn't yet decided if we were renewing. She asked me if the new expiration date on our credit card was xx/xx - I advised it was not, and ended the call. The next morning I come into work to receive a renewal notice for $1506.40 awaiting me.

After 1 week of repeated calls and emails, I've gotten no response and no callbacks and no reversal of the credit card charge. Next step, filing with the BBB.

Terrible Customer relations.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Sage - Terrible Customer relations.

I have been a customer of sage since 1995. When you could buy the program from the store and it cost about 500.00 CAD (a large amount then) but it was what my accountant used.

Since then Sage has gone to their mandatory annual renewal, I was unknowingly upsold a program by a outsourced sales person, who spoke very fast and sold me a version of sage software that was needed for very large companies more than what I need. My company has 5 employees now & at the time maybe 3 employees. My program cost has just about quadrupled in price, since then because I use the payroll option. This year I am to pay $1525.44, but it will be higher next year guaranteed as this accounting program continually climbs in price.

I was told once, when I finally could reach a human to speak to, that if I cancelled my payroll option I would lose all my company data and have to re-input my company as a new company. I do not have the time for this. That kind of feels like blackmail to me. And If you need to talk to someone about your account details, be warned that the customer portal sends you through an endless maze of stupid questions like your name when they already have your name and account number to even get into the chat portal.

So, after 20 minutes of being their monkey in their "organ-grinder" of a help line you end up where you started with the information that they are closed till Monday and will resume taking calls (email chats) 9-5pm EST. You can go to their bog page called university city which is just a bunch of stupid *** that does not help you.

User's recommendation: If you can avoid this program do it! There has to be an easier way to live your life.

I complained to the sales person that kept phoning me from Richmond as my renewal date was approaching and they wanted to update my visa so they could take over 1500.00 out. I told them that the price increased from last year quite a bit and he said he talked to his manager to see if I could get some discount and then he came back and said I had the lowest price, I said I only had 2 people on payroll and that I had a small home-based business and I only use the basic things.

I don't even have inventory. I paid for the 2022 sage premium and they cut me off this weekend, Aug. I cannot access my invoices, payroll, accounts payable etc. I paid for 2022 and they cut me off.

I sympathize with you and I am not impressed as I have been with sage for 18 years.

I would not recommend sage to anyone as they do not care about their customers. They charged us for what a medium sized business would use.
